Interdisciplinary Field Research Methodology


The present manual has been developed to enable the trainers to design, teach courses and/or impart training in Interdisciplinary Field Research Methodologies. Another objective is to sensitise water professionals on the importance of inter and trans disciplinary approaches and research. The resource material encompasses the following themes: (a) conceptual need and focus on interdisciplinarity; (b) consequences of different methodological approaches for design, planning and implementation of water resource projects; (c) importance of incorporating gender concerns in field research with; (d) overview of hydro-ecological investigation techniques in the context of IFRM; (e) quantitative techniques; (f) qualitative research; (g) participatory research; (h) stakeholder analysis; and (i) conceptual basis and strategy for executing field research.
