Dissemination workshop, October 30-31, 2013, Hyderabad

Dissemination workshop of the project titled “Rural to urban transition and the periurban interface: Identifying, mapping and understanding the periurban areas in India and Pakistan” took place on 30th and 31st of November 2013, in hotel Avasa, Hyderabad, India. The workshop saw delegations from Pakistan, USA and India deliberating on multidimensional aspects of periurbanization processes in India and Pakistan. Workshop had an interesting session on regional cooperation by national and regional media in both the countries. Academicians, researchers, environmental activists, media and students actively participated in the discussion on diverse project outputs.




Role of media in strengthening the Indo-Pak relations on regional cooperation

The dissemination workshop saw a very interesting session on role of India and Pakistani media on regional cooperation. Attended by eminent media personnel, Ms Asma Sherazi, senior anchor and editor, Dawn TV, Pakistan, Mr. Kingshuk Nag, editor Times of India and Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, editor, The Siyasat Daily, India, the discussion revolved around clearing the misconception of the situation prevalent in both countries and to plot an agenda for media in regional cooperation. The session was chaired by Dr. Abid Suleri, SDPI, Pakistan and co-chaired by Dr. Arvind Susarla, Hyderabad Central University, India. This highly interactive session provided insights on regional cooperation through talk shows in both the countries on issues like women education, rapid urbanizations, development etc which media to an extent bypassed so far.
