I hold a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering, Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh, where I have specialized in Environmental Engineering. During my undergraduate studies, I have completed my research on extended water holding capacity for irrigated land using rice husk biochar as an alternative of chemical fertilizer to make irrigation environment friendly and to reduce the water demand from outside source on dry days. I am Maruha Akter from Bangladesh. I am pursuing my MSc on Water Resource Development at the Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET where I have been selected as a IDRC-SAWA Fellow as well. Prior to I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). In my Bachelor level I had worked on irrigation water management by using lysimeter. Besides, I have two articles in different international journals regarding irrigation water management. My current research interest is on water security, groundwater depletion, wastewater reuse and climate change.
I have intense interest on working for underprivileged and handicapped community. Apart from these, travelling and stamp collection are my favorite spare time activities.
I am Rabeya Sultana Leya working as Assistant Professor in Urban and Rural Planning Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna. In June 2014, I have joined there as Lecturer and promoted as Assistant Professor in December 2016. I have completed my masters and bachelor degrees in Urban and Rural Planning from the same institute. I have secured the first merit position in both. Now I am on study leave to pursue M Sc. degree on Water Resources Development from IWFM, BUET. At SaciWATERs, I am presently involved as SAWA fellow.
My fields of interest for research are climate change, disaster risk and vulnerability and the gender aspects. I want to develop my career on these fields. My hobby is travelling.
During my bachelors in Civil Engineering- Saveetha Engineering College, I was a part of workshop on “Recent Advancements in Civil ngineering”which motivated me to present a paper on “A study on concrete using Hypo-sludge as partial replacement of Cement”. My final year project was on “Removal of Cadmium from Industrial Effluents using low-cost adsorbent”. Apart from my academic excellence, my energy was put in extracurricular activities too. Became a Classical dancer and learned Karate and was able to secure some medals in State and District level tournaments. My spare time was spent in completing some short-term online courses like‘Project Planning and Control’ conducted by IIT, Madras. My interest was majorly to influence and to create impact in people’s life by making them aware of the benefits derived out of water conservation.

I have published a paper on “Economical technology for fluoride removal from drinking water using tea ash and fish bone” in the Journal of Chemical and Pharamaceutical Sciences. I did my under graduation project on “Removal of Iron from Synthetic waste water using Sawdust and Rice husk as a Filter media” and I have presented this paper in the International Confrence on Smart Technologies and Green Environment at Velammal Engineering College. As a Water Resource Engineer and Manager, I wish to ensure water security for all the people especially the rural population and Iam also interseted in teaching children about WASH.
I am Mohanaabitha.B. I had done my undergraduate course in civil engineering at Adhiparasakthi Engineering College, during my course I have participated in workshop related to Forensic Engineering of structures. My final year project was experimental I am Mohanaabitha.B. I had done my undergraduate course in civil engineering at Adhiparasakthi Engineering College,investigation on improving the sub-grade soil using flash and quarry dust. I have also cleared preliminary level in Business English Certificate Examination conducted by University of Cambridge and took Participated in a training class on total station conducted by Hundai surveying company at Mayiladurai.Hereby I would like to work on water scarcity related issues.

And I.sc from “National Infotech”, Birgunj, Nepal in 2013; SLC from “Bharat Baba S.B.S”, Kalaiya Nepal in 2011. Now I am pursuing Master in “Interdisciplinary Water Resource Management” from Nepal Engineering College. In previous degree of Bachelor I have studied and made Dissertation on topic called ‘Green Building’. Research and studies show that the Building have significant amount of 1819contribution in polluting the environment. The verge at which we have brought our mother nature in our blind run of development is critical and needs a complete green solution, which is ‘Green Building’. Outside of my study and research, my hobbies are singing, doing art and craft work, visiting new places. And I am eagerly interested in environment and spiritual science.
My name is Poonam Pandey. I pursued my bachelor in Civil Engineering from Kathmandu University. Currently, I am working as a hydropower engineer (third class Gazette officer) in BudhiGanga Hydropower Project under Ministry of Energy. I am a civil Engineer Graduate from Kathmandu Engineering College affiliated to Trivuwan University. My career started as a Construction Engineer, especially focused in reconstruction work after Massive Earthquake in Nepal, 2015. Though I was directly involved in Building construction work for more than three years, I was also equally part of management and implementation team. My interest was always inclined towards nature, climate and environment, which was the reason behind choosing Interdisciplinary Water Resource management for master’s Program. Ms. E.M.G.P. Hemachandra holds B.Sc in Agricultural Technology and Management from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She has awarded Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Rajapaksha Memorial Gold Medal for Agricultural Engineering at the General Convocation 2017. After the graduation, she joined the department as a Temporary Lecturer. She is interested in applications of Geographic Information System (GIS) and willing to involve research works related to climate change, water management and agriculture. Currently reading for M.Sc in Integrated Water Resources Management at Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya under IDRC-SAWA fellowship programme. Her research entitled “Determination of the Sustainability of Horivila-Palugaswewa Cascade System, Sri Lanka with the Changing Climate”.
Kowshayini Pathmanathan, Bachelor of Science, specialized in Environmental Conservation and Management. In second International Conference on Climate Change (Climate Change and Global Sustainability: Action for Bridging the Gap), I received session’s best presentation award for the session of climate change, adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development for my undergraduate research study on “Carbon neutral energy: producing energy efficient briquettes with invasive species water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), wood residues and cow dung to replace fossil fuels used in small and medium scale industries. Under SAWA fellowship programme, my research work is based on assessment of the importance of ecological balance in the tank cascade system. In my leisure time I do listen songs and I am interested in wildlife photography.
M. M. G. S. Dilini
Ms. M. M. G. S. Dilini holds a BA (Hons) Special Degree in Geography from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She has awarded “Senkadagala Lions Club Siri Pathirana Memorial Prize”, “Y. W. Gunawardena Memorial Scholarship”, “Ginige Cooke Memorial Prize” and “Enright Memorial Prize” for greatest competency in Geography at the General Convocation 2016. After the graduation, she joined the department as a Lecturer (Temporary). She is interested in Geospatial techniques and has involved research works in the field. My name is Nazwa Tahsin, from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently, I am pursuing postgraduate degree of MSc on Water Resource Development at the Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET. Previously, I have completed Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from BUET. In terms of work experience, I have worked under CEGIS and ICCCAD as an intern. Along with volunteering and co-curricular activities, I have taken a handful of trainings and done two research works.
My field of interest includes environmental management, climate change, gender equity and development. Aside that, painting and travelling are my favorite things to do in leisure.
The vision of planned Bangladesh has persuaded me to complete my undergraduate study from Urban and Regional Planning in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology. Environmental Planning & Management focusing Climate Change Adaptation & Natural Resource Economics have always stirred my curiosity because of its importance in ensuring a better living. It’s the reason behind my undergraduate research on the topic titled ‘Using Market Mechanism to Protect the Environment: An Instance from Groundwater Resource Depletion in Northwest Bangladesh’. Now, I am pursuing MSc program in Water Resources Development in IWFM, BUET to meet my interest to work in the domain of environmental resource management. Additionally, I really love to engage myself in social activities to serve the humanity.
I pursued my Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Environment Science and minor in Mathematics from Asian University for Women. My undergrad thesis was based on the impacts of climate change induced salinity intrusion on nitrogen fixing microbial community of Sesbania bispinosa and histo-architecture changes of Eichhornia crassipes and Enhydra fluctuans tissues” which is presented in two international conferences (one of them is “Gordon Research Conference”, USA), and published in “iLab-Australia” journal. The topics which are related to climate change always interest me. For this reason, I want to conduct my Master’s degree (MSc) thesis research in this topic integrating water and gender issues of Bangladesh related to it. Besides these, my hobbies are hand-embroidery, painting, playing basketball and Karate.
MANISHA M. has completed her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from University College of Engineering, Tindivanam .She is currently pursuing postgraduate in IWRM in College of Engineering, Guindy Campus, Chennai. She has undergone In-plant training in Sky High Construction, Chennai. She served as a volunteer in her Undergraduate college functions.She is also interested to work on NGOs to help people. SIVARANJANI J. has completed her undergraduate in civil engineering in Mohammed sathak A J College of engineering, Chennai and she is currently pursuing her postgraduate in Integrated Water Resource Management in Anna University, Chennai. She got RAJYAPURASKAR award in Bharath scouts and guides. She attended inplant training in Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Ltd., and CREDAI Chennai. She is interested to work on designing and research oriented field. Now she is interested to work on water resource development projects for a sustainable environment. Her hobby is reading Tamil novels and drawing.
I have completed my bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Kathmandu University in 2015 A.D. For my undergraduate thesis, I had conducted a research on the topic ‘Vulnerability Assessment of the Potentially Dangerous Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Imja Lake, Nepal’. My areas of interest are Geographical Information System (GIS) and its application on water resources, hydrological modeling and climate change & its impact. My name is Shreeya Lohani. I am a Bachelor Graduate in Chemistry in 2018.I have done research on final year under the topic “Green synthesis and characterization of Zirconia nanoparticle- antimicrobial activity”. I had active participation during the national and international conference held in Kathmandu. I had always been on frontline of creating solutions to the gender related issues on my previous colleges. However, my keen interest working in water management, gender issues and policy, climate change has driven me to this field. P.C.D.A. Dissanayake is a graduate of the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. She had completed her B.Sc. Agriculture degree specializing in Agricultural Economics. Her undergraduate study had been focused on the factors that affect climate change resilience in small-holder coconut cultivations during which she became interested in the field of water resource economy and integrated water management. With the SAWA fellowship she would like to focus on the decision-making process of farmers regarding water resource management and the gender factor behind water economics.
I’m A.R.M.M.P. Menike and holds a BA (Hons) special degree in Geography from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka with a Second Class Upper Division pass. I have been interested in working with the water sector from my undergraduate studies. My undergraduate research work was based on identifying the “Spatial and Temporal Variation of Groundwater Quality of Ma Oya Catchment and its Vicinity”. My objective of following the MSc. in IWRM with the SAWA Fellowship program is to gain more knowledge in water management aspects.
I’m S. D. N. M. Senadeera holds a B.Sc. degree in Agriculture from the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. I have specialized in Agricultural Economic and Extension. I have work experience as Research Assistance in Hector Kobbekaduva Agrarian Research and Training Institute. My research work is based on Vulnerability of smallholder marginal farmers in North Central Province (NPC) of Sri Lanka to agricultural risks and climate change.
Khadiza Tul Kobra Nahin
I am Khadiza Tul Kobra Nahin, graduate in Geography and Environment from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology. I also obtained a second major degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the same Institution. Currently I am a student of M.Sc. at Institute of Water and Flood Management in Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology. During my academic career I conducted research project on groundwater salinity in the southwestern coastal zone of Bangladesh where my work focused on vulnerability assessment and finding social impacts. I also worked as a PhD research assistant which gave me an experience to measure surface water and soil quality near Shundarban as well as understand homestead patterns of the coastal zone to protect climatic hazards. My research interest has been grown in groundwater and surface water quality and management, coastal environment, climate change and IWRM. Besides academic career my hobby is to solve Sudoku and I was awarded as a national champion in ‘Sudoku National Championship-2017’. I also love to play Cricket, Handball, Volleyball, and Badminton and write poems and stories.
I am Sahika Ahmed. I have done my B.Sc. graduation in Water Resources Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, (BUET). My B.Sc. thesis was on flood inundation mapping using HEC-RAS 1D/2D coupled model. Now, I am pursuing my M.Sc. on Water Resources Development at the Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET, where I have been selected as an IDRC-SAWA fellow as well. I have got the opportunity of being the co-author of the paper “GIS Based Flood Risk Assessment of Eastern Dhaka”, published in the International Conference on Engineering Research, Innovation and Education (ICERIE 2019). I was involved in some extracurricular activities too. I have learned Karate, Drawing/Sketching, performed as an anchor of some programs and was the vice-president of BUET Self Defense club, BUET. I was able to secure the first position in the Inter-University Hydraulics Olympiad (Senior). I have also achieved some medals in National and District level in Mathematical Olympiad and Sudoku competition. I had courses on ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, MATLAB, and AutoCAD. My goal is to work for the development of water safety issues for all the people. I am also interested to work on Climate change and its mitigation and adaptation and different Socio-economic issues. My hobbies are Photography and knowing about mysterious things, cases and structures of the world. In my leisure time I usually listen songs and watch documentaries on different topics.
Sumaiya Binte Islam
I am Sumaiya Binte Islam from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am now pursuing my post-graduate degree in Water Resource Development from Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), BUET. I completed my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology. My thesis was on salt water intrusion in to the coastal aquifer of south-west of Bangladesh by numerical model simulation. I have keen interest to work with the most common element of environment that is water. Research field is a challenging and at the same time more suitable task for my skills. Painting and travelling are my hobbies. I have worked with FWCA, a NGO working for adolescent girls and children with special needs. Though my background is quite technical based, still I will be eager to work integrally by using my technical knowledge for serving the common people with their social crisis.
Meena Sakthivel Pandian
Meena Sakthivel Pandian is pursuing her Master of Engineering in Irrigation Water Management in College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai. She received a bachelor degree in Agricultural and Irrigation Engineering from the same institution. She did two internship projects in IITM entitled “Impact of Industrial Textile wastewater on algal growth” and “Synthetic Textile Waste Water Treatment for Irrigation suitability”. Her undergraduate project was on “Techno Socio-Economic Impacts of Farm Ponds in Thiruporur block, Tamilnadu”. Her primary research interest is on studying the Impact of Climate Change on Farmer’s livelihood and socio-economic status. Aside from all this research, she commits herself in departmental activities by organising many events like International and National level technical fest KURUKSHETRA, GREENICS and so. In addition to being an academician, she was a member of the Anna University Ball Badminton Federation (AUBBF) and won many zonal and sports day matches.
Melba Respina B
MELBA RESPINA B has completed her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology, Dindigul. Currently, she is pursuing her postgraduate degree in Irrigation Water Management in College of Engineering, Guindy. Her undergraduate project was on the usage of Polymer Cement Concrete in order to significantly reduce water consumption and also to minimize environmental impacts. She has undergone an Inplant Training in Tamil Nadu Water Supply And Drainage Board (TWAD), Madurai. Her area of interest is to attain a sustainable environment by understanding climate change and also by incorporating and improving water quality, gender importance as well as water conservation. Her hobbies are listening to music and playing keyboard.
PRIYADHARSHINI R.C. has completed her undergraduate in “Agriculture Engineering” in Mahendra Engineering College, Namakkal and she is pursuing her postgraduate in “Irrigation Water Management” in Anna University, Chennai. She attended workshops on four disciplines of agriculture. She is interested in soil and water conservation. The workshops attended were “Current Water Scenario in India”, Recent technologies in agriculture, Micro irrigation, Precision farming and Water shed management. She presented paper on “Bio-Degradable Packaging” in Banaari Amman Institute of Technology and “Ozonation in Water Treatment” in Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute. Additionally, she completed “Bio-Energy” online course offered by NPTEL learning. She did her undergraduate project on “Design and Development of Sensor Based Harvester for Bitter gourd”. Her field of interest for research are climate change and gender aspects in agriculture. Her hobby is Reading books and Drawing.
I am a graduate of “Bachelors Degree of Civil Engineering” from “Kantipur Engineering College” affiliated to “Trivbhuvan University”, Nepal in 2015 AD. Currently I am pursuing Masters in “Interdisciplinary Water Resource Management” from Nepal Engineering College and working as a freelance Engineer designing Water Supply Projects. I also have worked as WASH engineer in Red Cross for a year and it has exhibited me the real issues corresponding to water supply which I can co-relate with whole country. To propel my professional carrier in Water Resources and its Management along with my affinity towards supply of clean drinking water in rural areas of Nepal including its management have driven me towards IWRM. I am a creative thinker who loves to come up with novel solutions and improve upon conventional ways of doing things.
My name is RadhaDhakal. I’m a civil engineering graduate from Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus. I worked as a reconstruction engineer after the Gorkha Earthquake in 2015. I was actively involved in providing technical assistance, training, supervision works at Sindhupalchowk district during the period. I have got a keen interest in works and research related to water resources and water supply management. Pursuing this interest, I’m currently working as a civil engineer at Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board, a policy-making and management body under the government of Nepal. Besides this, I’m actively engaged in women’s leadership activities and aim to contribute to women’s leadership and engagement in the field of sanitation and water supply.
I am Civil and Rural Engineer, a graduate from Nepal Engineering College, affiliated to Pokhara University. After awarded the Bachelors’ Degree in Civil and Rural Engineering, I pursued my career as WASH Engineer and possess the skills, water supply and sanitation assessment, survey and design and water resource management for multiple use system (MUS) of water. I am keen to focus of my research study, how to reduce the climate change threat from the Interdisciplinary Water Resource Management (IWRM) country like Nepal. I found this research study is very much contemporary in our perspective. This is why I choosed IWRM in my masters’ degree in Civil Engineering.
Besides Engineering, I am interested on psychological theory. I love to travel and contemplate the spatial variability of socio-economic status, gender equality and cultural aspects of different places. Moreover, I am open minded and person who believes in own potential with learning attitude.
