I hold a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering, Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh, where I have specialized in Environmental Engineering. During my undergraduate studies, I have completed my research on extended water holding capacity for irrigated land using rice husk biochar as an alternative of chemical fertilizer to make irrigation environment friendly and to reduce the water demand from outside source on dry days. I am Maruha Akter from Bangladesh. I am pursuing my MSc on Water Resource Development at the Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET where I have been selected as a IDRC-SAWA Fellow as well. Prior to I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). In my Bachelor level I had worked on irrigation water management by using lysimeter. Besides, I have two articles in different international journals regarding irrigation water management. My current research interest is on water security, groundwater depletion, wastewater reuse and climate change.

I have intense interest on working for underprivileged and handicapped community. Apart from these, travelling and stamp collection are my favorite spare time activities.

I am Rabeya Sultana Leya working as Assistant Professor in Urban and Rural Planning Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna. In June 2014, I have joined there as Lecturer and promoted as Assistant Professor in December 2016. I have completed my masters and bachelor degrees in Urban and Rural Planning from the same institute. I have secured the first merit position in both. Now I am on study leave to pursue M Sc. degree on Water Resources Development from IWFM, BUET. At SaciWATERs, I am presently involved as SAWA fellow.

My fields of interest for research are climate change, disaster risk and vulnerability and the gender aspects. I want to develop my career on these fields. My hobby is travelling.

During my bachelors in Civil Engineering- Saveetha Engineering College, I was a part of workshop on “Recent Advancements in Civil ngineering”which motivated me to present a paper on “A study on concrete using Hypo-sludge as partial replacement of Cement”. My final year project was on “Removal of Cadmium from Industrial Effluents using low-cost adsorbent”. Apart from my academic excellence, my energy was put in extracurricular activities too. Became a Classical dancer and learned Karate and was able to secure some medals in State and District level tournaments. My spare time was spent in completing some short-term online courses like‘Project Planning and Control’ conducted by IIT, Madras. My interest was majorly to influence and to create impact in people’s life by making them aware of the benefits derived out of water conservation.

I have published a paper on “Economical technology for fluoride removal from drinking water using tea ash and fish bone” in the Journal of Chemical and Pharamaceutical Sciences. I did my under graduation project on “Removal of Iron from Synthetic waste water using Sawdust and Rice husk as a Filter media” and I have presented this paper in the International Confrence on Smart Technologies and Green Environment at Velammal Engineering College. As a Water Resource Engineer and Manager, I wish to ensure water security for all the people especially the rural population and Iam also interseted in teaching children about WASH.

Now I am pursuing Master in “Interdisciplinary Water Resource Management” from Nepal Engineering College. In previous degree of Bachelor I have studied and made Dissertation on topic called ‘Green Building’. Research and studies show that the Building have significant amount of 1819contribution in polluting the environment. The verge at which we have brought our mother nature in our blind run of development is critical and needs a complete green solution, which is ‘Green Building’. Outside of my study and research, my hobbies are singing, doing art and craft work, visiting new places. And I am eagerly interested in environment and spiritual science.

In second International Conference on Climate Change (Climate Change and Global Sustainability: Action for Bridging the Gap), I received session’s best presentation award for the session of climate change, adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development for my undergraduate research study on “Carbon neutral energy: producing energy efficient briquettes with invasive species water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), wood residues and cow dung to replace fossil fuels used in small and medium scale industries. Under SAWA fellowship programme, my research work is based on assessment of the importance of ecological balance in the tank cascade system. In my leisure time I do listen songs and I am interested in wildlife photography.

Previously, I have completed Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from BUET. In terms of work experience, I have worked under CEGIS and ICCCAD as an intern. Along with volunteering and co-curricular activities, I have taken a handful of trainings and done two research works.

My undergrad thesis was based on the impacts of climate change induced salinity intrusion on nitrogen fixing microbial community of Sesbania bispinosa and histo-architecture changes of Eichhornia crassipes and Enhydra fluctuans tissues” which is presented in two international conferences (one of them is “Gordon Research Conference”, USA), and published in “iLab-Australia” journal.  The topics which are related to climate change always interest me. For this reason, I want to conduct my Master’s degree (MSc) thesis research in this topic integrating water and gender issues of Bangladesh related to it. Besides these, my hobbies are hand-embroidery, painting, playing basketball and Karate.

I am Khadiza Tul Kobra Nahin, graduate in Geography and Environment from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology. I also obtained a second major degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the same Institution. Currently I am a student of M.Sc. at Institute of Water and Flood Management in Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology. During my academic career I conducted research project on groundwater salinity in the southwestern coastal zone of Bangladesh where my work focused on vulnerability assessment and finding social impacts. I also worked as a PhD research assistant which gave me an experience to measure surface water and soil quality near Shundarban as well as understand homestead patterns of the coastal zone to protect climatic hazards. My research interest has been grown in groundwater and surface water quality and management, coastal environment, climate change and IWRM. Besides academic career my hobby is to solve Sudoku and I was awarded as a national champion in ‘Sudoku National Championship-2017’. I also love to play Cricket, Handball, Volleyball, and Badminton and write poems and stories.

My B.Sc. thesis was on flood inundation mapping using HEC-RAS 1D/2D coupled model. Now, I am pursuing my M.Sc. on Water Resources Development at the Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET, where I have been selected as an IDRC-SAWA fellow as well.  I have got the opportunity of being the co-author of  the paper “GIS Based Flood Risk Assessment of Eastern Dhaka”, published in the International Conference on Engineering Research, Innovation and Education (ICERIE 2019). I was involved in some extracurricular activities too. I have learned Karate, Drawing/Sketching, performed as an anchor of some programs and was the vice-president of BUET Self Defense club, BUET. I was able to secure the first position in the Inter-University Hydraulics Olympiad (Senior). I have also achieved some medals in National and District level in Mathematical Olympiad and Sudoku competition. I had courses on ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, MATLAB, and AutoCAD. My goal is to work for the development of water safety issues for all the people. I am also interested to work on Climate change and its mitigation and adaptation and different Socio-economic issues. My hobbies are Photography and knowing about mysterious things, cases and structures of the world. In my leisure time I usually listen songs and watch documentaries on different topics.

My thesis was on salt water intrusion in to the coastal aquifer of south-west of Bangladesh by numerical model simulation. I have keen interest to work with the most common element of environment that is water. Research field is a challenging and at the same time more suitable task for my skills. Painting and travelling are my hobbies. I have worked with FWCA, a NGO working for adolescent girls and children with special needs. Though my background is quite technical based, still I will be eager to work integrally by using my technical knowledge for serving the common people with their social crisis.

She did two internship projects in IITM entitled “Impact of Industrial Textile wastewater on algal growth” and “Synthetic Textile Waste Water Treatment for Irrigation suitability”.  Her undergraduate project was on “Techno Socio-Economic Impacts of Farm Ponds in Thiruporur block, Tamilnadu”. Her primary research interest is on studying the Impact of Climate Change on Farmer’s livelihood and socio-economic status. Aside from all this research, she commits herself in departmental activities by organising many events like International and National level technical fest KURUKSHETRA, GREENICS and so. Pursuing this interest, I’m currently working as a civil engineer at Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board, a policy-making and management body under the government of Nepal. After awarded the Bachelors’ Degree in Civil and Rural Engineering, I pursued my career as WASH Engineer and possess the skills, water supply and sanitation assessment, survey and design and water resource management for multiple use system (MUS) of water. I am keen to focus of my research study, how to reduce the climate change threat from the Interdisciplinary Water Resource Management (IWRM) country like Nepal. I found this research study is very much contemporary in our perspective. This is why I choosed IWRM in my masters’ degree in Civil Engineering.

My undergraduate research had been focused on Analysis of Drought condition in Kilinochchi District, Sri Lanka by Standard Precipitation Index. Currently, I’m reading for my M.Sc in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, under IDRC – SAWA Fellowship Programme. My interesting fields are water management, water security, Irrigation management and climate change from the field of B.Sc studies. In future, I aim to contribute to women’s leadership in the field of sanitation in a decision making level. In my leisure time, I love travelling.

I am Ms. R. D. U. A. Ranasinghe. I hold B. Sc in Agricultural Technology and Management from theUniversity of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. During my undergraduate studies, I have completed theresearch on variation of wood density in different tree species found in the tropical rainforests inSri Lanka under the main research project on the impact of climate change in tropical rain forestsof Sri Lanka. Currently pursuing M. Sc in Integrated Water Resources Management atPostgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya under IDRC- SAWA fellowshipprogramme. I am interested in Environmental forestry and willing to involve research worksrelated to water management and climate change
