| Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is known for its contribution to developing innovative Field Action Projects. These projects are essential for advancing professional knowledge, and for giving field experience and training to students and faculty members to enable them to participate in the process of social development more effectively and actively. The projects have also helped in evolving new techniques of social work, methods of research and also aid in the understanding of community problems. Between 2000 and 2006 TISS has completed over 650 research and other projects funded by Central and State Governments, bilateral agencies, inter-governmental and international bodies, and business and industrial houses and/or in collaboration with NGOs, Foundations and communities. |

Main activities of the Institute under the project include: |

To develop teaching materials for post graduate teaching in the area of IWRM, gender and water with a focus on interdisciplinary understanding and consideration of equity; |

To impart training in research methods in the area of IWRM, gender and water to PhD scholars of South Asian countries; |
| • |
To improve the understanding of gender and equity issues in water management of working professionals through training in various areas of IWRM with a gender perspective; and |
| • |
To expose professionals, particularly women in the water sector to issues in different contexts in South Asia. |
