Dr. N. Hanumantha Rao served as a Scientist in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for four decades, working at IARI Delhi and later at NAARM Hyderabad in several capacities including Joint Director and Dean of NAARM. His research, teaching and training expertise spans agricultural hydrology and water resources management, climate change impacts on agriculture and water resources, geospatial and information technology applications, agribusiness management and institutional governance, strategy and leadership. At IARI, his integrative research in water management led to quantitative decision aids for sustainable irrigation planning, management and policy, aimed at improving overall water productivity. At NAARM, his research in agricultural research and information management resulted in institutional policy frameworks, spatial databases and decision support systems for sustainable agriculture policies. He has also initiated and launched postgraduate education programmes in Water Science and Technology at IARI and in Agribusiness Management and Technology Management at NAARM. Dr. Hanumantha Rao has served as Principal Investigator on several research projects sponsored by DST, ICAR and the World Bank. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
